SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by a barber (complainant) for assistance after finding out he had been made a bankrupt over a supposed debt to a company which he claimed he had no knowledge of.
The 42 year old from Tabuan Desa, surnamed Chin, said he discovered he was made a bankrupt after he received a letter from the Insolvency Department. According to him, the Insolvency Department informed him that he was made a bankrupt due to his failure to pay a RM150,000.00 debt to a food supply company and due to some alleged cheques issued by him to the food supply company..
The complainant informs that he is confused as to why he is made a bankrupt by the food supply company as he has absolutely no dealings whatsoever with the food supply company and that he does not have a current account with any bank.
The complainant further informs that he has approached the food supply company for clarification and proof through invoices or documents on his indebtedness but he was ignored. The complainant have also lodged a police report at Sekama Police Station on the 1st December 2015 for investigation of the matter by the police.
The complainant decided to seek help and advice from SUPP PCB Chief, Wilfred Yap after reading in the newspapers about SUPP PCB assisting the public on all type of problems the public are facing.
SUPP PCB have now brought the matter up for the attention of Insolvency Department and have requested for their thorough investigation and have also requested for Insolvency Department to arrange for a meeting between him (complainant), representatives of the food supply company and the advocate firm that made him a bankrupt on behalf of the food supply company.
During a meeting with an officer of Insolvency Department, SUPP PCB Chief, Wilfred Yap also requested on behalf of the complainant for the production of documents relied upon by the advocate concerned and the food supply company to show the complainant’s indebtedness to them.
