SUPP PUBLIC COMPLAINTS BUREAU PRESS RELEASE

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by an individual/father residing at Foochow Road, Kuching requesting for advice and assistance as his name was not registered as the father of his child in the child’s birth certificate.

The child is already five (5) years old. The Indonesian mother of the child have now abandoned the individual/father and the child and gone back to Indonesia.

The individual’s problem arose as there is no valid marriage certificate between the individual/father and the Indonesian women. The individual informed that this was due to his misunderstanding of the procedure and requirements that all marriages must be registered in Malaysia before it is legally valid.

After facing this problem and after seeing many people seeking for assistance with no results, the anxious father of the child decided to seek help and advice from SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap after reading in the newspapers about SUPP Public Complaints Bureau assisting the public on all type of problems the public are facing.

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap after hearing the individual father’s problems and predicament have now successfully assisted him in applying to the High Court for an Order that he is made a legal guardian of the child under his care since birth.

With the High Court Order of appointment as guardian, SPCB Chief Wilfred Yap proceeded to assist him to apply to the District Office for the legal adoption of the child under his care. After the District Office approves his application for adoption of the child under his care, he can then proceed to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara to register the Certificate of Adoption and subsequently to apply for citizenship and an identity card for the child.

The predicament that the individual is facing is quite common and SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have received numerous requests for assistance on this kind of problem. To prevent problem like the above from occurring, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to advice the public that it is very important for couples (where the prospective wife is a foreigner) to register their marriage to ensure that their children are born as a citizen of Malaysia. Prevention is better than cure.
