SUPP YOUTH DIALOGUE SESSION WITH MPV UNIT PRESS RELEASE

SUPP Youth has conducted a dialogue session with the Mobile Police Patrol Vehicles (MPV) Unit, Kuching district under the arrangement of its Youth Central vice chairman cum Pending Youth Chairman Councilor Goh Tze Hui assisted by Anthony Jee who is the Training Secretary of Pending Youth branch, with the aim of acquiring in-depth understanding on the operation of this police patrol team in Kuching.

Youth leaders that present include SUPP Youth Central Secretary-General Milton Foo, assistant secretary Liew Leong Yee, Kuching South City Councilor Lim Swee Chiaw, Alex Pui, Albert Tay and others.

Beside seeking better understanding of police patrol operations, SUPP Youth do take the chance to provide information of the crime black-zones in Kuching, which are with high criminal rate, in order that the patrol team would pay higher attention and reinforce more frequent patrols in these areas, which include Pearl Commercial Centre in Tanah Putih and the newly built City Square Business Centre.

Milton Foo pointed out at the meeting that the above two locations are, unfortunately, tagged as black burglary zone. He hoped that the patrol car would pay more attention and increase patrols in these area. According to Sergeant Lim, senior assistant inspector of the police patrol car fleet, the main task of the police patrol car is to prevent crimes, carry out patrols and front-line support. Since most of the public have little understanding on how the police department works, he addressed welcome and gave credit to the program of SUPP in this. He also pointed out that if there’s an occurrence, police patrol cars must arrive the scene within 15 minutes after receiving the report. Through this kind of activities, SUPP aims to enhance the knowledge and understanding of youth members on the daily patrol operations of the police, furthermore, facilitate the direct involving of public in the prevention of criminals through this ice-breaking visit. SUPP Youth plan to launch more similar dialogues or forums to raise the public awareness on crime precautions, and at the same time establish a channel for the police to reach the grass-roots level in term of solving the security problems around residential area.
