SUPP PUBLIC COMPLAINTS BUREAU PRESS RELEASE

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by an individual father residing at 7th Mile, Penrissen Road requesting for advice and assistance as both him and his wife’s name was not registered as the father and mother of the child in the child’s birth certificate. The child is already eight (8) years old and had been taken care by both the individual and his wife since birth.

The individual and his wife had asked for assistance as they did not understand the procedure and requirements of the process required for adoption and application for Malaysian citizenship for the child.

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap after hearing the individual father’s problems and predicament have now successfully assisted him in applying to the High Court for an Order that he is made a legal guardian of the child under his care since birth.

With the High Court Order of appointment as guardian, SUPP PCB Chief Wilfred Yap proceeded to assist him to apply to the District Office for the legal adoption of the child under his care. Through the assistance from SUPP PCB Chief Wilfred Yap, the District Office have approved his application for adoption of the child under his care and SUPP PCB is now assisting him to register the Certificate of Adoption of the child with Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN). After that SUPP PCB Chief Wilfred Yap will assist him to apply for Malaysian citizenship for the child.

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap hopes that Members of Parliament on the ground of Social Justice regardless of whether they are from BN or the opposition will speak out in Parliament on the issue and to convince the Government to re-look its citizenship policies on stateless children and to address the issue of statelessness by amendment to current legislation whereby in situations of stateless children who are born to a father of Malaysian citizenship would acquire Malaysian citizenship by operation of law notwithstanding that the marriage of the Malaysian father to a foreign mother is not registered at the time of their child’s birth.

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to notify the public that there are many individuals who might be facing similar problems but does not know how to deal with it. SUPP Public Complaints Bureau is always ready to give advice and lend a helping hand provided it is a genuine case.
