SUPP PUBLIC COMPLAINTS BUREAU PRESS RELEASE

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) Chief Wilfred Yap together with Kapitan Kho Phek Choo accompanied a woman surnamed Chan to Companies Commission of Malaysia after she was asked to give more information on the complaint that she had lodged earlier that her identity have been fraudulently used as a company director and for proper investigation to be carried out.

The woman is a fast food seller and had previously  informed Kapitan Kho that she was scared after she received the letter from Companies Commission of Malaysia alleging that she had failed in her capacity as  company director to file in the annual statement of accounts of a company.

She also informed that she has never own shares in any company and that she has never been appointed as a director of any company. She also informed that she is not a shareholder of any company and had never signed any document agreeing to be a director of any company. The woman have also lodged a police report on her identity theft.

SPCB Chief, Wilfred Yap together with Kapitan Kho will continue to follow up and monitor the situation closely until the predicament facing the woman fastfood seller is completed and the culprit properly prosecuted and charged under the Companies Act and other relevant laws and regulations.

Cases involving identity theft is becoming quite prevalent these days and as assistance to the public, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau is issuing this list on what can be done to protect and prevent your identity from being stolen:-

1. Share minimal personal information on social media;

2. Do not give personal information and photocopy of identity card when dealing with an unfamiliar party;

3. Do not click on any link in suspicious e-mail, messages or website;

4. Set social media account to private mode and only add people you know;

5. Do not key in your username or password from links in e-mail; and

6. Do not be Greedy and  stop communicating when a deal is too good to be true.
