In conjunction with the celebration of Malaysia Day on the 16th September 2019, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) Chief cum SUPP Kota Sentosa Chairman, Wilfred Yap would like to wish every Malaysian “Selamat Menyambut Hari Malaysia”. Let us not forget our multi-cultural and multi-religious fabric of our Malaysian society as it is through harmony and understanding among the people of Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya that binds us all together as one people.
We must not forget the significance of Malaysia Agreement 1963, which is an International Treaty for the establishment of Malaysia that was signed on the 7th July 1963. Malaysia Agreement 1963 points to the fact that the one and only true date to the formation of Malaysia is 16th September 1963 by four independent countries, namely Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore. Singapore seceded from Malaysia on 9th August 1965.
The current PH Government must address the genuine grievances of Sarawakians and Sabahans and give priority to recognize Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners with the states of Malaya and return the rights and interest accorded to them under Malaysia Agreement 1963.
The rights of Sarawak and Sabah must be respected by the PH Federal Government. It is only through improvement in the socio-economic status of Sarawak and Sabah, underscored by respect and empathy for her people and their cultures and heritage that Sarawakians and Sabahans would begin to feel they are equal to their sisters and brothers in Malaya.
As we celebrate Malaysia Day, let us all strive to enhance a spirit of patriotism and love Malaysia and recommit ourselves to further develop and strengthen the unity and understanding between the people of Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya with trust and respect for one another.
