SUPP President YB Senator Datuk Dr Sim Hui Kian, said that SUPP would like to continue to fight for the recognition of UEC by the State Government of Sarawak..
Since the formation of the Party, SUPP has always been active in supporting Chinese education in Sarawak, be it Chinese Primary Schools or Chinese Independent Schools.
For the Chinese Community in Sarawak and West Malaysia for that matter, the recognition of UEC by the Ministry of Education is very important and dear to their hearts.
For now, we are talking about Sarawak and SUPP will actively pursue and engage with all the relevant authorities with the ultimate aim of obtaining the recognition of UEC by the Government of Sarawak. In particular, SUPP will seek and discuss with our YAB Chief Minister of Sarawak on how best to approach on this matter..
We are also very happy that Mr Richard Wee Chairman of Committee of Management Chung Hua Middle No 1,3 &4 and Mr Jonathan Chai Secretary General of United Association of the Schools of Management of Chinese Schools in Sarawak are with us today and that they are with us in this journey. They are very supportive and we need their advice too. We sincerely thank them and have always appreciated their contributions towards Chinese Education.
Sarawak is very different and our history is relevant here. We have the 18 points as contained in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 with the formation of Malaysia. One of the 18 points stated that Sarawak has autonomy in the education system of ours.
In the premises SUPP is fully committed and will pursue vigorously on this matter, which is to fight for the eventual recognition of UEC by the State Government of Sarawak.
