PRESIDENT NEW YEAR MESSAGE

YB Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian

As we look forwards to welcoming 2015, we wish our chief minister, YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem, another year of successful reform and propel Sarawak to a new socio-economic and political era.  We recognise and strongly support his courage and leadership in his inclusive policies, his anti-corruption campaign, his mutual respect and moderate view in religions and racial harmony plus his zeal to make Sarawak a better place.

Sarawak is a big state and blessed with bountiful natural resources within Malaysia.  We recognize and are grateful to the British, the Australians and our fellow Malaysians from Peninsular for defending our sovereignty in the 1960’s and are proud that our fellow Sarawakians had similarly paid with blood defending Malaysia, the latest being Lahad Datu last year.  However after 52 years in Malaysia as an equal partner, Sarawakians expect the same level of development (school, hospitals, roads, etc), living standards, and job opportunities in the Federal government and Federal agencies.  Together with the Chief Ministers and our fellow Sarawak BN YBs, SUPP and I will continue to pursue this mission of equality with zeal.

We recognize the tremendous challenge in the global economy for 2015 with the significant drop in the price of oil, the depreciation of our Ringgit and locally with the implementation of GST, we need to ensure the various “preventive” government program to be implemented effectively in order to cushion the impact of the cost of living as well as focusing on strong financial management including wastage reduction in order to have enough funding to carry on all the development projects planned for Sarawak and without further delay for the people of Sarawak.

In this time of uncertainty, we need the help of fellow Sarawakians to work hand in hand with our political leaders, together with a strong will to ensure that our country remains “a moderate” (ignoring those who are extremist), together continuing to uphold our constitutional rights and secular status, and together to strongly support YAB Datuk Patinggi Adenan Satem as Chief Minister of Sarawak with his policies in anti-corruption campaign, more efficient civil service, and cutting down red tapes in administrative bureaucracy.

For the Chinese in Sarawak, in order to be part of this exciting new era, to be more effectively represented and to support YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as Chief Minister of Sarawak, I urge the Chinese in Sarawak to think rationally, to be aware of the realities, to take up the challenge and responsibility for our children and our future destiny.  I would like to work with all segments of the Communities in Sarawak and my biggest dream is the youth, especially the Chinese youth so that your ideas, inspirations can be realised and I can pass the leadership baton seamlessly to the next generation soon.  We hope together, we can seize the once in a lifetime dream through Sarawak BN under the chairmanship of YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem in the next state election.

Lastly, we believe under the leadership of the people’s chief minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, he will continue to receive the strong support of the people of Sarawak and SUPP for his courage and leadership in his inclusive policies, his anti-corruption campaign, his mutual respect and moderate view in religions and racial harmony, and his zeal to make Sarawak a better place in 2015 and beyond.

On this new year eve, our thoughts and prayers are with our fellow Malaysians affected by the floods in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia.  We shall rebuild just like after the Tsunami in 2004.

We are also extending our condolences to the family of the late Sii Chung Huei, who was on flight QZ8501.  May his soul RIP.
