SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached for assistance by a person (surnamed Chai) and his wife residing at Batu Kawa, Kuching for assistance and advice in respect of a problem that he and his wife was facing.<\/p>\n

According to Chai, he and his wife had paid about RM50,000.00 to a woman allegedly being the legal fees for the handling of a negligence claim on behalf of Chai\u2019s wife against a private hospital. The woman had promised Chai\u2019s wife that she would be entitled to damages of above RM800,000.00 from the private hospital due to the private hospital\u2019s negligence in making a wrong medical diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Chai and his wife had decided to seek assistance and advice from SUPP PCB Chief, Wilfred Yap after reading in the newspapers about SUPP PCB assisting the public on all type of problems the public are facing.<\/p>\n

However, upon interviewing and listening to the wife of Chai, it was discovered that actions of women and the facts surrounding the case was very peculiar and suspicious. There were no proper receipts issued to Chai\u2019s wife as all the payments for legal fees was not made in the legal firm premises or lawyer\u2019s office. Neither was there any Bill or Invoice from the lawyer stating the work done or completed for the alleged legal fees paid.<\/p>\n

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief Wilfred Yap had brought Chai\u2019s wife to lodge a police report on the matter at Kuching District Police \u201cOne Stop Centre\u201d at Simpang Tiga and hope the police will make a thorough investigation on the matter complained of.<\/p>\n

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau views the matter seriously and would like to advice the public that when they seek legal services, they must ask for an invoice or bill from the lawyer or legal firm concerned. The bill or invoice will state what the payment is for. The public is also advised to ask from the lawyer or legal firm for an official receipt in respect of any payment made.<\/p>\n
