SUPP N12 Kota Sentosa candidate Wilfred Yap would like to reply to the criticism of his stand on various issue made against him by the DAP Stampin Publicity Secretary.
The DAP Stampin Publicity Secretary have made a statement that it is the duty of the ruling party and local council’s duty to do the job of repairs and maintenance and that I have exposed the inefficiencies of Padawan Municipal Council in my capacity as Councilor. If this is the view of every opposition elected representatives, no wonder the constituencies represented by opposition YBs are facing much problems.
Whilst it is the local council’s duty to do the job of repairs and maintenance, the problems must invariably be brought to their attention. The Sarawak State Assembly or August House usually sits only twice a year and every sitting on most occasions does not exceed 10 days. This means elected state YBs only meet for about 20 days in a year. There are 365 days in a year and what are elected opposition YBs supposed to be doing for the rest of the 345 days.
It must be made clear to the public that Councilors only serve part time as they are only paid an allowance of RM100.00 per meeting compared to YBs who are paid a fixed monthly allowance of RM15,000.00 plus other perks and benefits.
As YBs are enjoying hefty monthly pay checks, all elected representatives are duty bound to help the people in their respective constituencies with whatever problem they are facing.
In fact most opposition YBs are only good at calling press conferences or issuing press statements. They raise issues for publicity but never follow up on the issues raised with realistic actions to solve the problems.
Opposition YBs are enjoying hefty monthly pay checks but are they doing anything for the benefit of the people in their constituency to deserve it? Some of their common excuses are: “We are not controlling the Government Departments or Agencies” and “We do not possess the resources needed to solve the people’s problems”. Instead of giving excuses, opposition YBs should go to the ground and start serving the people like their predecessor, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, a former DAP YB. If opposition YBs cannot even solve small problems in the constituency they represent, I have no comments on their ability on bigger matters.
At this juncture, I would like to say that the criticisms levelled against me is not fair or constructive for the simple reason that I am only serving the public on a part time basis through SUPP Public Complaints Bureau which was only established in October 2014. As head of SUPP Public Complaints Bureau, a position that has no remuneration whatsoever, I have been moving on the ground and I am willing to produce my REPORT CARD. I hope the same goes with opposition YBs to produce their report card.
By his own admission, YB Chong Chieng Jen, the current state assemblyman for N12 Kota Sentosa have acknowledge that BN Sarawak will prevail in the coming State Elections. As such I appeal to the people of N12 Kota Sentosa to give me a platform to perform a bigger role in bringing more development funding to N12 Kota Sentosa and to be their effective voice on the State’s future Economic Planning and Development.
