SUPP PUBLIC COMPLAINTS BUREAU PRESS RELEASE

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap would like to reply to YB Chong Chieng Jen’s criticism through the press of his assisting the residents at Lorong 10, Jalan Semaba.

YB Chong have made a statement that he had lodge a complaint at Talikhidmat on the matter at Lorong 10, Jalan Semaba and that Wilfred Yap’s actions at Lorong 10, Jalan Semaba in assisting the residents amounts to a complaint against MPP itself. If this is the view of YB Chong, it is no wonder that the area of N.12 Kota Sentosa represented by YB Chong for the last 10 years are facing so much problems.

Whilst it is the local council’s duty to do the job of enforcement, repairs and maintenance, the problems must invariably be brought to their attention and the YB must secure funding whenever the need arises. In this case, Wilfred Yap have personally gone to the ground with MPP Enforcement Officers to ensure that the problem is resolved quickly for the residents staying at Lorong 10, Jalan Semaba..

SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap would like to remind YB Chong that the Sarawak State Assembly or August House usually sits only twice a year and every sitting on most occasions does not exceed 10 days. This means elected state YBs only meet for about 20 days in a year. There are 365 days in a year and what are elected opposition YBs supposed to be doing for the rest of the 345 days.

It must be made clear to the public that Councilors only serve part time as they are only paid an allowance of RM100.00 per meeting compared to ADUN YBs who receive RM15,000.00 and MPs who are paid a fixed monthly allowance of RM16,000.00, not to mention other perks and benefits.

As YB Chong is enjoying a hefty monthly pay check of RM15,000.00 as ADUN for N.12 Kota Sentosa and RM16,000.00 as MP for P195 Bandar Kuching, he is duty bound to serve and help the people in the constituencies YB Chong represents with whatever problems they are facing.

I hope YB Chong is aware that most problems cannot be solved through just a report to Talikhidmat and calling a press conference or issuing press statements but through follow up on the problems raised with realistic actions done to solve the problems.

If problems can be solved just by a report to Talikhidmat, than there is no more need for the people to elect a “YB” to serve a constituency. Instead of criticisms, finding fault and giving excuses, opposition YBs should go to the ground and start serving the people like their predecessor, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, a former DAP YB.

The criticisms levelled against Wilfred Yap is not fair or constructive for the simple reason that Wilfred Yap is only serving the public on a part time basis through SUPP Public Complaints Bureau which was only established in October 2014. As head of SUPP Public Complaints Bureau, a position that has no remuneration whatsoever, Wilfred Yap have been moving on the ground and is ready and willing to produce his REPORT CARD. Wilfred Yap hope the same goes with YB Chong to produce his report card to justify his hefty remuneration of RM31,000.00 (excluding other perks and benefits) as ADUN N.12 Kota Sentosa and MP P.195 Bandar Kuching.
