SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap were recently approached by purchasers of houses constructed by a developer in the Muara Tuang area who informed that the occupation permits to the houses they purchased some four (4) years ago have yet to be issued.
According to the representative of the purchasers, without an occupation permit, they are unable to apply for connection of water and electricity supplies to their houses and cannot move in despite having to continue paying for their loan instalments.
The representative of the purchasers of the houses also complained that without an occupation permit, they cannot refinance or resell their property and that is causing them great hardship. They further complained that Banks or Financial Institutions would not finance sub purchasers through the sub sale of their houses if they wanted to sell and/or refinance their houses at a lower interest rate without an occupation permit.
After hearing the complaint, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have written to Majlis Daerah Samarahan (MDS) to inquire whether the developer concerned has submitted their application to Council for issuance of the Occupation Permit for the said houses in Muara Tuang area.
On another related matter, Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP) have replied to SUPP Public Complaints Bureau informing that MPP have no record of application for issuance of occupation permits for the houses at Banquet Square despite the purchasers having moved in some 8 years ago.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have now written to the Sarawak Ministry of Housing requesting the Housing Ministry which issues the Housing Developer’s License to take steps to compel the developer to rectify the matter.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau views the above matter seriously and will continue to monitor the matter with MDS and Housing Ministry in light of the hardship and inconvenience currently faced by purchasers of houses at Banquet Square and Muara Tuang area.
