SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached by the residents staying at Taman Hong Hong, Jalan Burung Lilin. Their spokesperson who spoke on their behalf complained of dumping of culverts and building waste materials for construction of an access to a house by the owner.
Following the complaint and request for assistance received, Wilfred Yap had immediately highlighted and brought up to the attention of the Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP) and together with officers from MPP’s Enforcement and Engineering Department went to inspect and assess the situation and also to see what can be done to quickly resolve the problem.
During the meeting at the site of the construction of the illegal access, officers from the Enforcement Department of MPP communicated the complaints of the residents of Taman Hong Hong by issuing a stop work order under Section 8A (4) Buildings Ordinance, 1994 and a further notice to restore the monsoon drain to its original state within fourteen (14) days under Section 136 (1)(a) of the Local Authorities Ordinance 1996.
The house owner concerned have now removed and cleared the culverts from the drain and restored the monsoon drain to its original state and SPCB would like to thank the house owner for his cooperation with MPP to have the matter resolved quickly.
SPCB hopes that in future, the public will also not irresponsibly dump left over construction material into the drains to make a bridge to access their land as it will disrupt water flow when it rains causing flash flooding.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Wilfred Yap is always ready to highlight and try to resolve issues of public interest affecting the community through the relevant authorities.
