SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) Chief Wilfred Yap was recently approached by a single mother from Batu Kawa, Kuching for seeking assistance as she felt harassed, threatened and scared after two unidentified persons came to her house six times looking for her son to collect payment for a loan which they alledge her son owed them. The single mother informed that her son have not come home for five days already and that she was scared about the safety of her son. The single mother have since lodged a police report.
SPCB Chief, Wilfred Yap is currently assisting the single mother and would advice people with financial problems to never never resort to money lenders or “loan sharks” for a short term solution to their problems.
People with financial problems need not suffer mentally and emotionally every time collection agencies appointed by financial institutions come to harass them as they can approach National Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency or more commonly known as Agensi Kaunseling dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK). AKPK was set up by our Government under Bank Negara’s umbrella to help people in debt or facing financial problems.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau would like to advice anyone who have debt servicing problems with financial institutions to go to AKPK for assistance as it is free of charge, legal and staffed with experienced officers who will act on their problem.
The office of AKPK in Kuching is situated in Bangunan Bank Negara Malaysia, Jalan Satok, 93720 Kuching and their telephone contact is 082-414910.
