SUPP TO CM PENANG: DON’T DRAG SARAWAK INTO DAP POLITICS

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) is shocked with Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, for attempting to drag the good name of Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Pattingi Tan Sri Adenan Satem into his religion-based politics and his current political battles.

In his press statement today, Penang CM Lim Guan Eng has asked “Would UMNO, Including Ministers Like Khairy Jamaluddin, Dare To Lodge Police Reports And Condemn Sarawak Chief Minister.”

We would like to advise YAB Penang CM Lim Guan Eng that Sarawak is an equal partner with Peninsular Malaysia as enshrined by the Malaysia Act 1963 and the 18/20 points agreement where point 1 itself states that:

“While there was no objection to Islam being the national religion of Malaysia, there should be no State religion in North Borneo, and the provisions relating to Islam in the present Constitution of Malaya should not apply to North Borneo”

There is also the Federal Govt’s 10 points agreement signed in 2011 that further protects Sarawak’s right to religious freedom.

This means that Sarawak and Sabah have full control of our religious practices and there is no restriction or ban on any words used by Christians and other non-Muslims here in Sarawak – a point that our Chief Minister of Sarawak has made numerous times in the past few months.

Sarawak has not approved or gazetted any “fatwas” similar to what the Penang Mufti was reported to have stated that the Pakatan Rakyat Penang state government with the approval of the Penang ChieF Minister had agreed and gazetted in 2010. http://tinyurl.com/ml8zyze

It defies logic that the Penang state government led by Lim Guan Eng gazetted and enforced the ban of 40 words for non Muslims in 2010 is now suddenly unenforceable for non Muslims.

Therefore, we strongly object to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s attempt to drag Sarawak and our YAB Chief Minister of Sarawak into your unproductive religion-based politics. Please keep your religion-based politics to yourself.

Similarly, we call upon Sarawak DAP to keep his party’s Secretary General under control and advise him not to be jealous of Sarawak Chief Minister for his strong stance on this “Allah” issue.. DAP must also advise CM Lim Guan Eng not to interfere with Sarawak’s politics and Sarawak’s religious practices by trying to bring his race-based Peninsular Malaysia politics into Sarawak…Don’t tell us to do what he cannot do in Penang.

We in Sarawak are happy as we are, as we have continuously enjoyed Peace, Harmony and Stability.
