SUPP Public Complaints Bureau was recently approached by a group of residents who were unhappy with the air pollution caused by a bitumen premix plant operating at Jalan Cinle, near 10th Mile, Kota Padawan. When approached, SUPP Public Complaint Bureau fixed an appointment date for its Chief, Cr Wilfred Yap to meet up and listen to their unhappiness and to assess how best to help them.

From investigation carried out by Cr Wilfred Yap, who is also a Councillor of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), it was discovered that MPP is very much aware of the problem and had already issued a notice to the operator to stop operations.

However, the operator has applied in July 2014 to Land and Survey Department for a five year temporary usage of the land to operate the bitumen pre mix plant. No decision has been made by Land and Survey Department and MPP is still waiting for Land and Survey Department’s reply on the outcome of the application for temporary usage of the land to operate a bitumen pre mix plant.

In view of the complaint from the residents, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Cr Wilfred Yap reiterated to bring this issue to the representative from Land and Survey Department attending the Council’s Works, Traffic And Building Control Standing Committee Meeting and request for Land and Survey Department to speedily arrive at a decision on the  application for temporary usage of the land to operate a bitumen pre mix plant in light of the key performance index (KPI) requirements imposed by the Sarawak Government to arrive at a decision on matters affecting the public within a reasonable time frame.

This is because MPP cannot take further action until the status of the application for temporary usage of the land to operate a bitumen pre mix plant is decided by Land & Survey Department.
