SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief, Wilfred Yap was recently approached for assistance by the Chairman (surnamed Lai) of Asajaya Market Neighbourhood Association (Jawatankuasa Rukun Tetangga Pasar Asajaya) as he were not satisfied with the police handling of two persons caught by his members. The two suspects caught by his members were behaving and acting suspiciously and in the process of breaking into a shophouse.
According to Mr Lai, he had together with his committee members handed over the two suspects to the police together their identity cards at the place where the incident took place. However the police on duty at that particular time instead of detaining them for questioning returned their identity cards and requested the two suspect and committee members of the Neighbourhood Association to go to the Asajaya Police Station. The two suspects never turned up at the Asajaya Police Station.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau views the matter seriously as incidents of this nature would have an adverse effect on the Government’s initiative to reduce the crime and its Chief Wilfred Yap had brought Mr Lai to lodge a police report on the matter at Kuching District Police “One Stop Centre” at Simpang Tiga.
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau have now highlighted and brought the matter up for the attention of the Officer in Charge of Samarahan and the Police Commissioner of Sarawak and have requested for their thorough investigation on the matter complained of and hopes that incidents of this nature would never be repeated again.
